Breeding Results

Our Advantages, Our path to profit

  • Micron- we have lost 2.4 micron in 10 years of breeding
  • Clean Fleece Weight - has improved through selection of increased density and length
  • Fertility - in the previous 3 years we have marked 130%, 120% and 115% of lambs to ewes joined in the stud flock.
  • Fibre length - all ewes are shorn every 8 months. The SRS® line of weaners wool averaged 86 mm, 91 mm and 84 mm for 9 months growth since 2006.
  • Skins - Hard wrinkle has been eliminated from all ewes. The sheep are easy care and good doers. No lambs were mulesed in 2006.
  • Carcass traits - Through Sheep Genetics Australia the stud is selecting for early maturity good muscling and fertility. Sire 129 is in the top 1% for eye muscle depth at 2.2.
  • ASBV's - Animals in the 2008 drop were in the top 5% for Yearling weight staple length and eye muscle. All 2009 drop lambs can be viewed on the sheep genetics website for measured ASBV’s.

Testimonials

"From a shearers perspective Glenwood's Sheep are far superior to shear than traditional sheep.
This is due to less wrinkled skin which results in less skin cuts and less struggling of the sheep and the shearer.
The shearer's comb travels through the fibre a lot easier because they are not intertwined. This means the shearer can shear more sheep through less effort, and there is more wool in the fleece lines instead of under the table as locks."

Norm and Pip Smith’s Glenwood Merinos at Wellington, NSW, epitomize the SRS® sheep type. The wools are sensational. The sheep are plain-bodied and naturally resistant to fly strike. Mulesing has not been necessary for a long time. Fertility is exceptional with lamb marking percentages above 120%. Body growth rate and muscling in the young sheep are genetically high and rising quickly. The stud is driven on the genetic performance of the dams and sires with extensive breeding performance recording providing the essential information to make good breeding decisions.

I recommend highly your purchasing Merino and Poll Merino rams from Glenwood. The sheep are reared in a natural and healthy environment and have the capacity to convert Merino sheep into a highly profitable and easily managed animal.”
